Mr. Swenson was born February 20, 1928 in Fleetwood, Bronx, New York to Arthur Swenson and Anna Rose Hart Swenson. He was an industrial chemist and retired following 16 years of service as Atlanta District Manager for Allied Chemical Corporation. He then followed his life-long dream building custom furniture, even for Jimmy Carter while he was in the Oval Office.
Art loved helping people in need. In the 1980’s he helped build many Habitat for Humanity Houses in Forsyth County. In the 1990’s, a tornado ripped through Hall County leaving many homeless. Art visited churches in the Gainesville area organizing a relief effort among Christians to help rebuild homes. For a few years beginning in 2001, he volunteered with CASA being a voice for children in the Hall County Court System. He has donated not only his money to Good News at Noon but also his time. With his donations, Good News at Noon built a shelter to house the homeless. Each month with his wife, Patsy, and a group from his Church, he organized, cooked and served lunch to the needy at Good News at Noon. People matter and Art had a heart for people.
