Charles O'Hara

Charles O'Hara, age 92, of Cumming passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at his home.  Charles O'Hara was born in Nemacolin, Pennsylvania, on October 17, 1924, to Martha and Michael Ohar.    He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers – George, Michael and Steven – and by his sisters – Marie Mikolich, Pauline Urban and Julie Smith and his brothers-in-law, Joe Bocsy, John Urban, Charles Mikolich, Martin Smith and his nephew, Johnny Urban.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; his son, Richard (Polly); his daughter, Carol Lieb (Paul); his grandchildren, Cal, Jason and Brent Lieb; his brother-in-law, Richard Fribus; by his sister, Margaret Bocsy; nephews – Richard Smith, Joseph Bocsy III,  Mark Bocsy (Kristie) and children; nieces – Barbara Bocsy; Dona Reynolds (Gordon), and  children (Christopher and Gina); LuAnn, Barbara and JoAnn (Brian) and children Brian and Erin; Lynn Watson ; Julie  Stumpf (Peter) and children, Alexander, Laura, and James;  cousins Mike (Margie) Kostak;  nephew Alan Flohr (Rachel) and their families –Eleanor Crooke (Tom) and children; Carl Ranfanelli (Anke) and children; Renee Giangiobbe (Michael) and children; Rachel Lessard (Jim) and children; Regina Rosenblum (Chuck) and children; Walt Flohr (Rhoda) and children, Michael and Jennifer.

Chuck grew up in Acosta, Pa. and served in the U.S.Army in World War II from l943 – 1946 in the 153rd Engineer Combat Battalion and served in New Guinea, Sou Philippines. He received Asiatic-Pac Theater W/2 Bronze Stars; Victory Medal; Good Conduct American Theater; Philippine Liberation W/l Bronze Star.

When he returned from the Army, he moved to North Bergen, New Jersey.   He met and married Dolores and they were married for 64 years. They lived in Brick Town, New Jersey for twelve years and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they lived for 39 years.  Chuck was self-employed in the ceramic tile setting business.  

Chuck was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and served on many committees.  Chuck was also active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.   He loved to go fishing whenever he could and vacation in the summer always meant trips to Pennsylvania to visit family.

After retirement, he volunteered to be a part-time “Nanny” for his grandchildren.

In 2004, Chuck and Dee moved to Cumming, Georgia.  He enjoyed working in the yard but most of all, Chuck enjoyed feeding the birds each day and watching the deer go through the yard.  He always enjoyed giving a helping hand to a neighbor and had fun with the children in the neighborhood.

He was a member of Cumming First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held will be held at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kathie Stasko officiating.   Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and the service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia,  on Monday, July 31.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cumming First United Methodist Church Dementia/Alzheimers' Support Group.
