Donald M. Wellington

 Donald M. Wellington, 91, left to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 5, 2017. 

The services will be held at the Memorial Park South Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, with viewing at 1:00 and the funeral at 2:00.

Donald was born on July 8, 1926, in Wellsville, Ohio. He met and courted his wife of 69 years, Maxine D. Payne, in high school.  After a stint in the Air Force at the end of World War II, they were married February 6, 1948. He served in the Ohio National Guard, which was activated and deployed in Korea, where Don served as a Tank Commander for 2 years. Don went to work for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Tampa in 1961 and was transferred to Atlanta in 1963. He headed the multi-family division for the Southeast until his retirement in 1983. After retirement, he went into business doing appraisals as an independent contractor in Flowery Branch. He has called Flowery Branch home for more than 30 years and the number of people whose lives he touched is in the hundreds. He is a member and former Board member of the Flowery Branch United Methodist Church.

Donald is survived by his lifelong wife and companion, Maxine D. Wellington; children, Donald W. and Patricia Wellington, Michael F. and Linda Wellington, Phyllis and Allen Stewart, and Denise and Gregg Ellwanger; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother, William and Lillian Wellington; many nieces and nephews, and hundreds of friends and acquaintances who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those whose knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Flowery Branch United Methodist Church.
