Obituary Date: Sunday, August 6, 2017

Mrs. Lynn M. Darby, age 78 of Gainesville, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her residence following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Reverend Tony Elrod will officiate the service.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, prior to the service.

Mrs. Darby was born September 22, 1938 in San Francisco, California to the late Jack Webb McLain and Edna Agnes Kaehler McLain. She moved to Mississippi at the age of five. She loved growing up in a small town and was active in sports, a passion she passed down to her children. This December would have been 55 years of marriage with her husband Earle. They moved often during Earle's early U.S. Forest Service career and made dear friends at every stop. They settled in Gainesville, GA in 1975 and made their home here. After raising her children she went back to school and graduated from Brenau University. She went on to spend 10 years working with the Gainesville Police Department before retiring to spend time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Darby is survived by her husband, Earle W. Darby, Jr. of Gainesville, her children, Michael L. (Betty) Darby of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, R. Keith Darby of Gainesville, Joyce Darby (Eddie) Jones of Gainesville and Scott K. (Lynn) Darby of Lula; grandchildren, Beth (Johnny) Gaither of St. Louis, Missouri, Matt Darby of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kelly Jones of Gainesville, Griffin (Angel) Jones of Cumming, Georgia, Whitley Jones (Matt) Miller of Gainesville and Garrison Darby of Lula; 2 great-grandchildren, Cash Gaither of St. Louis, Missouri and Logan Jones of Cumming, Georgia; sisters, Judi Marsh of Chico, California and Susan Whittington of Natchez, Mississippi and brother & sister-in-law, Dave (Doris) McLain of Pineville, Louisiana and a number of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ben McLain and sister, Margaret McLain Haney.
