Walter Porter

Walter Porter, age 90, and lifelong resident of Forsyth County, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Walter was a member of Salem Baptist Church and had served as a deacon for 63 years. He had farmed in Forsyth County for his entire life and was an avid baseball player and fan. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Felton and Aline Porter; brothers, Mark, Paul and Homer Porter; sisters, Bessie and Ruby Porter; son-in-law, Cleburn Knight.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Vera Porter of Gainesville; children, Joyce Knight of Gainesville, Wesley and Judy Porter of Gainesville; grandchildren, Craig (Tammie) Knight, Jason (Paige) Knight, Micah (Stephanie) Porter, Briana (Joey) Vaughan; 8 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives also survive. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 12^th at 2:00 pm at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Nix officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Friday from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until hour of the service.
