Elizabeth Hughey Wetherington

Elizabeth Hughey Wetherington-  Born Aug 31, 1915 - died Sept 1, 2017. Widow of former Gospel Music legend James "Big Chief" Wetherington. Born in Mentone, AL, Elizabeth's family moved to Lakeland, FL where met James Wetherington.  In 1949 James joined the Statesmen Quartet and moved to Atlanta where they were employed by both WSB Radio and TV.  "Liz" was considered a true quartetman's wife and gracious hostess, known for her pies and welcoming manner.

Elizabeth is survived by daughter Diana Wetherington Helton, (husband James Helton), granddaughters Tiffany Shiflett (Michael), Tamara Johnson (David) and five great-grandchildren: Jacob Shiflett, Raegan Shiflett, Mackenzie Shiflett, Daniel Johnson, and Micah Johnson and her niece Deborah Hughey.  

Family will greet friends at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford on Friday 9/8 from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers family has requested donations made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, GA(http://www.nghs.com/love-light) in memory of Elizabeth Wetherington.
