Merrell Watson, age 83 of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Sunday, October 01, 2017.

Born in Jackson County, Florida on March 21, 1934, he was a son of the late Connie & Ellen Ingram Watson. Mr. Watson served his country proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Mechanic who enjoyed fishing, working on boats, deconstructing and reconstructing motors, reading western books, and trips to the beach/ocean. Most of all, he loved spending precious time with his family and loved his animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Faye Howell Watson of Cornelia, GA; daughters, Robin Watson, Carolyn Shockley, Cresy Pendley, Ann Ledda, Michelle Wood; sons, Michael David Watson, John Carroll, & Michael James Gooch; grandchildren, Tiffany Bruce, Emily Bruce, Kassidy Wood, Carley Wood, Matthew Wood, Misty Brookshire, Jeremy Allison, Brianna Allison, Amber Palmer, Ashley Garrett, Anthony Geirrein, Alexis Carroll, Destiny Carroll, Shania Carroll, Shelly Ann Gooch, Lacey Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Rainlynn Cunningham, Rylee Cunningham, Oliver Norton, Waylon Brookshire, Audrey Brookshire, MaKayla Gardner, Christopher Allison, Taz Allison, Ashlynn Geirrein, & Austin Geirrein; & several other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 04, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Thorton officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Marines, Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter # 15, and the Habersham County American Legion Post # 84.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. & 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
