Harold Joe Whiting

On October 25, 2017, Harold Joe Whiting, age 89, entered into the realm of Glory, where he was greeted by his Savior Jesus, and his wife of 61 years, Daisy Burtz Whiting. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Guice and Jessie Whiting, brother, Larry Whiting, and sister, Lucille Whiting, along with a great host of family and friends.

Harold will be missed greatly by his children; daughter Maritta Sanders of Chestnut Mountain, son and daughter-in-law Ron and Paula Whiting of Gillsville, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Sarah Whiting of Flowery Branch, daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Jim Busby of Goose Creek, SC; 6 grandchildren; Phillip Sanders, Chris and Deena Whiting, Susan and Buddy Stevens, Shannon and Cortney Whiting, Matt and Jacki Whiting, Jessi and Luke Hester; great-grandchildren; Alexandria Whiting, Rebekah Sanders, Daniel Whiting, James Sanders, Kaitlyn Whiting, McKenna Whiting, Daisy Stevens and Tensley Whiting, step great-grandchildren Tyler and Molli Stevens, sister Mary Smith of Maxeys, Ga, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and John Propes of Flowery Branch, numerous nieces and nephews, and several other loving family members.     

A lifelong member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church, Harold served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, trustee, and treasurer. Harold worked at Chicopee Manufacturing, General Motors, retired after 30 years. What he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 Along with the family members who stayed by his side during his lengthy illness, we would like to thank the staff of Pruitt Hospice, Northeast Georgia Hospice, and Bell Minor Nursing Home, and as he said, his “rest home buddies”

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday October 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Jim Austin will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday October 29, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
