Reverend Robert E. Kersh

Obituary Date: Tuesday, October 31, 2017

Reverend Robert E. Kersh, “Granddaddy”, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 31 2017. Rev. Kersh is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Charlene; three sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Tara, and Steve and Kathy; five grandchildren and spouses, Andrew (Janna), Caleb (Shae), Adam (Hannah), Taylor (fiancé, Vince Guagliardo) and Marah; one great grandson, Gabriel Kersh and one great granddaughter, Charlotte Belle Kersh, whom we have yet to meet; five step-children and spouses, Debbie (Gary) Sexton, Donna (Brett) Freemon, Rodney (Chante’) Sexton, Chris (Julie) Sexton, Dena (Tony) Tatum, thirteen step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Rev. Kersh is also survived by one sister, Cora Peck and one brother, Marion (Shirley) Kersh as well as a number of nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.  Rev. Kersh dearly loved all of his family.

Reverend Kersh was a faithful member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church for over 35 years. He loved his church family and his pastor, Rev. Darryl Womack. Rev. Kersh served his church as the Pastor or Pastoral Care until he was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s. Rev. Kersh was a true hero of faith. He loved his Lord and he lived through that love every day. Rev. Kersh was a faithful servant of God, having ministered to the children at the Hall County Youth Detention Center every Sunday morning for more than 34 years.  He led countless children to Jesus, as well as many others in various walks of life.

Reverend Kersh was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served four years just prior to the Korean Conflict. Rev. Kersh had also been a local businessman, having co-owned Cornett and Kersh Bridge Company, and was the owner of Kersh Construction Company and also of RMS Transport. Rev. Kersh constructed numerous bridges and dams throughout Georgia and he continued to build bridges as a pastor and follower of Christ.

The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation for the loving care Rev. Kersh received from everyone at The Oaks at Limestone. It was truly a blessing to have the love and attention from the entire staff, and his family is truly grateful.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Womack and Rev. Jeff Worley and Rev. Ken Ausborn officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
