Mr. William Albert Cordell, age 72, of Bobby Street in Toccoa passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Landmark Hospital located in Athens, Georgia.
He was born February 3, 1945 in North Carolina to the late Paul C. and Olivia Fleming Cordell. He was a retired Chief Gunner’s Mate in the United States Navy having served three tours in Vietnam. Off shore Chief Cordell was a Gunner and when on shore served as Company Commander. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a truck driver for several years and in his spare time loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and six brothers.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Don Crain of Mars Hill, North Carolina; son, William Albert Cordell, Jr. of Black Mountain, North Carolina; grandchildren, Cole and Jesse Crain, Alex and Tiffany Cordell; two sisters, Wanda Morris of Olivia, North Carolina and Judy Moser of Graham, North Carolina.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. at The Toccoa City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. prior to the graveside.
The United States Navy is in charge of Military Funeral Honors at the graveside service.
