James Whitfield

James Edwards Whitfield, age 79 of Cleveland, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at his residence. 

Mr. Whitfield was born August 21, 1938 in Fulton County to the late Thomas Pickett Whitfield and Billie Edwards Whitfield. James was a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club where he was named the 1985 Kiwanian of the Year in Daytona Beach. He attended Florida University and The University of Florida, he was also an avid golfer. Mr. Whitfield worked for United States Postal Service where he served as Postmaster and was named Special Olympics Volunteer of the Year from 1984-1985. James and Shirley moved from Daytona Beach, FL to Palatka, Fl. then to Cleveland, GA in 2006. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Tommy and William. 

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Whitfield, Cleveland; children, Deborah Ann Madsen, Clear Lake, IA; Jennifer Lee Vaughn, Palatka, FL; James Gregory Whitfield, Clear Lake, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Ernestine Whitfield, Zephyrhills, FL; grandchildren, Christopher James Vaughn, Madonna Leigh Medeiros, Paul Michael Whitfield, Brad Mitchell Whitfield, Jacqueline Victoria Vaughn, Jennifer Elizabeth Vaughn; great grandchildren, Addyson Joan Whitfield, Nolan Marcus Hall, Easton Michael Whitfield, Jayline Lee Mayo.
