Carlos Roberto Solsona

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 24, 2017

Dr. Carlos Roberto Solsona, 75, of Buford, passed away on Sunday, December 24th 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with inurnment at 1:00 p.m., at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Father Eric Hill will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

Dr. Solsona was born November 8, 1942 to the late Carlos Roberto & María Emilia Solsona in Córdoba, Argentina. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

As a courageous, young physician, Dr. Solsona traveled to the United States in the 1970s with few belongings and broken English, to train to become a skilled vascular surgeon. After practicing as a surgeon for many years, his dedication to the Catholic Church and serving God led him to another calling later in life – in which he opened a family practice to share his medical gifts and talents with an under-served Hispanic community in Gainesville, GA. He joyfully led this clinic and offered charitable services to this community until he became ill in 2016.

Loyal and loving husband, father, and all-around dedicated family man, Dr. Solsona was known to say, “It’s family!”  This was his way of stating that no matter what the situation entailed, family always came first. More importantly, his actions carried out this mantra as much as he said it, as family did always come first for him.

Dr. Solsona had many passions – spending time with his family and friends; talking about his native country and his family overseas; traveling; reading; enjoying delicious food, classical music, movies, and live theater; singing with his church choir; and learning about history. He also loved all-things sports-related (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, and hockey), and was a dedicated fan to the Atlanta Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers, and Braves – even during their toughest seasons. During his youth in Argentina, he played soccer and rugby – and in his late 60s, Dr. Solsona took up his lifelong dream of learning how to fence. He had a knack for finding the humor in any situation and had a laughter that not only boomed in any setting, but was highly contagious.

Losing Dr. Solsona on Christmas Eve does not taint the holiday season for his family, but instead brings feelings of solace and peace. He was a man of tremendous faith, and his family firmly believes that as a result, the Lord chose to honor him by bringing him home during one of the most beautiful and holiest times of the year. He enjoyed a life of light, love, and laughter, and will be greatly missed.

Dr. Solsona is survived by his wife, Gail Solsona of Buford; daughter & son-in-law, Nicole and Joshuah Cochran of Atlanta; step-sons, Mickey Forsyth of Covington & Sean Cochran of Winder; step-daughter, Jennifer Saccoccia of Sugar Hill; 8 grandchildren; sisters, María Emilia Solsona and Beatriz Eugenia Solsona, both of Córdoba, Argentina; and several nieces & nephews.
