Betty Sue Gilleland

Obituary Date: Friday, December 29, 2017

Funeral services for Betty Sue Gilleland, 88, of Gainesville will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Ward’s Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Gilleland and Rev. Ricky Thrasher will officiate. Interment will follow at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ward’s Funeral Home. She entered Heaven’s gates on December 29, 2017. 

Betty Sue was born June 2, 1929 to the late Jewell B. and Estell (Little) Kemp. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she had an unwavering faith in God, and loved her Lord and Savior. Betty Sue was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She was full of life and loved to sing and yodel. 

She had an jubilant spirit and touched all who knew her. Betty Sue loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to whom she was known as GeeGee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lee Gilleland, daughter, Rebecca Ann Gilleland and son, Gerald Gilleland. 

Survivors include sons and daughters in laws, Mike and Debbie Gilleland, Gainesville, Mark and Becky Gilleland, Gainesville, Randy and Barbara Gilleland, Gainesville; daughter and son in law, Jeanine and Scott Holtzclaw, Gainesville; 8 grandchildren ; 10 great grandchildren;  and Betty Sue’s guardian angel, Sherry Neal, lovingly cared for her the last 5 ears of her life. The family gives Sherry their greatest gratitude.
