Gene Lamar Newell

Mr. Gene Lamar Newell, 77, of Braselton passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at New Horizons Limestone.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend Phil Carpenter Officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on October 7, 1940 in Gainesville, GA, he was the son of the late George William and Maude R. Newell. Mr. Newell was retired from General Motors where he worked in the Maintenance Dept.  Mr. Newell was a veteran of the National Guard and a member of Chicopee Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Newell is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Johnnie Sue Turk Newell; sister, Annette Ferguson and niece, Margaret Holland.

Mr. Newell is survived by his wife, Lillie Hughes Newell of Braselton; son and daughter in law, Gary and Kim Newell of Braselton; grandson, Josh Newell of Braselton; nephews, Danny Ferguson and Randy Ferguson; stepchildren, Gary and Rosemarie Hughes of Alpharetta, Debbie and Joel Loyd of Gainesville, Chris and Michelle Hughes of Athens; step-grandchildren, Andy and Katie Cagle of Soperton, GA, Brittany Cagle of Gainesville, step great grandchildren, Alyssa and Kaylin Jones.
