Richard “Dick” Thurmond McDaniel

Richard “Dick” Thurmond McDaniel, age 90, of Atlanta, GA, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. Jonn McDaniel will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 1:00 -3:00 PM at the funeral home. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Cleveland McDaniel & Nora Vastine Crumley McDaniel; his eight brothers & sisters; grandson, David Joseph Underwood. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Howell McDaniel; children, Zane McDaniel, Merle Sunny Underwood, Jonn McDaniel (Susan), Michele Furr (Craig); grandchildren, Mandy Bowman (Rob), Morgan Gentry (Caitlyn), Keegan McDaniel, Celia McDaniel, Caroline Furr, Jackson Furr, Noah Furr; great-grandchildren, Ansley Bowman, Robert Arnold Bowman III, Dakota Denson, Mackenzie Underwood, Stone Underwood. Dick was born March 15, 1927 in Winder, GA and was a lifelong resident of the metro Atlanta area. He served in the United States Army from January 15, 1946 – February 19, 1947 and retired from the CDC as Director of Publications.
