Lida Grogan

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 3, 2018

The family of Lida Grogan announces her passing after a period of declining health at 88 years of age. She passed away at Phoenix Senior Living in Gainesville.
Lida was born in 1929 in Hall County Georgia to the late Modane and Hubert Vickers.

She was preceded in death by her brother Bill Vickers, granddaughter Katie Terry and half-brother Dr. Dan Vickers.

Lida graduated from Gainesville High School in 1945 and attended Georgia State College for Women. After returning to Gainesville, she went to work as secretary for Theron Brown, Vice President of J.D. Jewell Poultry.

She later joined her family in the women’s apparel business, working at Ronald’s for almost 25 years. 

Lida is survived by her spouse of 67 years Keith Grogan; children Jim Grogan and Susan Smithson of Gainesville, Julie Terry and Retired Lieutenant General James Terry of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren Seth Terry of Rome, Georgia, Will and Tyler Grogan of Atlanta, Jared and Dr. Cora Terry of Arlington, Virginia, Brittan and Dr. Stephen Mullins of Cookeville, Tennessee, Cameron and Gabriela Grogan of Atlanta, Julianne and Major James Brandis of Ft. Riley, Kansas; brother-in-law and wife Rex and Mildred Grogan of Cornelia, Georgia; brother-in-law and wife Bud and Dale Clegg of Dahlonega, Georgia; half-brother Larry Vickers, of Atlanta, Georgia; half-brother Hubie Vickers; 10 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lida was a life-long member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Joy Class Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Tallulah Falls Study Club. 
The family will accept flowers, or for those who wish to do so donations can be made to the First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street NW, Gainesville, Georgia 30501; Gainesville History Center, 322 Academy Street NE, Gainesville, Georgia 30501; or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to acknowledge the comfort and care provided by caregivers Celestine Winters, Teresa Stevenson and Celeste Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on April 5, 2018 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 pm in the parlor of the First Baptist Church. She will lie in state in the chapel 2 hours prior to the service.
