Elmer T. Upchurch, Jr.

Mr. Elmer T. Upchurch, Jr., age 90 of Dacula, GA, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Stephen Fountain and Pastor Wayne Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to First Baptist Church Buford in memory of Mr. Upchurch.  Elmer was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Upchurch, David Upchurch, and Laura Hayes. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Upchurch, Dacula; children, Mike (Sandy) Upchurch, Gainesville, Sandy (Jeff) Butler, Acworth; grandchildren, Jessica Butler, Atlanta, Melissa Butler, Carrollton; siblings, Juanita (Bruce) Payne, McDonough, Kenneth Upchurch, McDonough. Elmer was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Elmer Toy Upchurch, Sr. and Leila Moon Upchurch and was a lifelong resident of the metro Atlanta area. He was ordained as a Deacon at Grant Park Baptist Church and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Buford. Elmer retired after 48 years with Southern Freight Tariff Bureau and was a WWII Veteran where he served in the Merchant Marines.
