Thomas Michael “Mike” O’Farrell

Thomas Michael “Mike” O’Farrell, 82, passed away April 29 after a brief battle with cancer. He spent his final day at home surrounded by his family. Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra Owens O’Farrell. His children include Dave O’Farrell, Mark O’Farrell (Maggie), and Kim Berry (Emory). Grandchildren include John and Zack O’Farrell; Becky, Caitlin, Michelle, and James Berry; and Leigh O’Farrell Watson (Ben) and Austin O’Farrell.

Mike graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta in 1953 and Georgia State University in 1963. He began working at First National Bank of Atlanta at the age of 17, where he met Sandra in 1955. After working in the insurance industry 17 years, he formed O’Farrell Associates in 1976.

During his career he served in many leadership roles including President of IIAG, President of the Georgia Chapter of CPCU, and National Director of IIAG. In 2016 he was chosen to be one of the inaugural inductees into the GSU Risk Management Foundation’s Hall of Fame.  

Mike served 12 years in the Air National Guard.

Services will be held at Buford Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. The church is located at 1242 Buford Hwy NE, Sugar Hill, GA 30518. The family will receive visitors at 11:00.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Buford Presbyterian Church Memory Garden Fund in memory of Mike O’Farrell.
