James Oren Hamby

James Oren Hamby, 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior May 10, 2018 after an extended illness.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  James was a devoted member and Deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church which he loved very much.  He was a 50 year Mason and member of Matt Lodge #694 F&AM.  James retired from Lockheed-Martin after 40 years of service.  He loved softball, fishing, and the Braves.  He was a gentle, loving man and had a warm smile and friendly handshake for everyone he met.

James is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Doris Turner Hamby; children, Sandra and Melvin McPherson, Angie and Eddie Martin, Rita and Troy Milford; grandchildren, Stephen and Kristy McPherson, Kristi and Brandon Watson, Edwin and Amanda Martin, Emily and Justin Elliott, Sarah and Kelly McCormick, Matthew and Hanna Milford; great grandchildren, Kadance and Camden McPherson, Tucker and India Watson, Beverly Elliott, and Ali McCormick; brothers and sisters, Noell and Hoosty Honea, Larry and Shirley Hamby; sister-in-law, Patricia Hamby; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Laurene Hamby; brother, Ralph Hamby; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Marcus Eubanks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Richard, Rev. Troy Milford, Dr. Eddie Martin and Rev. Jason Hamby officiating.  Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
