Dorothy C. Collins

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 17, 2018

Dorothy Copelan Collins, 75, of Gainesville, passed away Sunday June 17, 2018, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness.  Dorothy was born August 5, 1942 in Greshamville, Ga., to the late W.R. Copelan Sr. and Eunice Hayes Copelan.

She was retired from Legacy Link and a member of Riverbend Baptist Church.

It is said that the love of a mother is found not just in the millions of comforting words and gentle corrections she offers, but in the twinkle in the eyes and the smile on the faces of her children. Dorothy was a wonderful wife to Lenard for nearly 55 years and an amazing mother to Douglas and David. Over the years, the love in her family was magnified as she folded in Lisa and Ashlie and became a wonderful Grandma to a crew of grandkids.

Dorothy leaves a legacy of warmth through the work she dedicated to caring for senior adults in our community and through the life of love that she dedicated to her family, a family that loved her and now misses her greatly.

When anyone thinks of this girl raised on a dairy farm in Greene County, they will remember that she loved people well and showed compassion to every person she met, every time she met them. In her life, she prioritized love, and now the ones she cared for most will share her love because we have learned by her example.

As Dorothy drifted from this world toward her heavenly Father, none of us still on earth forgot or will forget the love she gave so freely and deeply while she was here, and the impact she had on those around her will endure.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her brother, W.R. Copelan Jr., sisters and brothers-in-law; Peggy C. and George Albert Rosencrance Jr.,  Myrtis C. and Thomas Pollock, and Jo C. and Ramon Ivie.  Brothers-in-law, James C. Smith and Lorain J. Arnold Jr.

Mrs. Collins is survived by her husband, Lenard Collins, sons and daughters-in-laws; Douglas and Lisa Collins, and David and Ashlie Collins.  Grandchildren; Jordan Collins, Copelan Collins, Beau Collins, Malachi “Mac” Collins, and Victoria Collins.  Sisters; Lillian C. Smith, Mary C. Arnold, and Janet C. Byrd.  Sister-in-law; Bennie Copelan.  And numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Collins will be Monday June 18, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Little and Davenport Funeral Home.  Graveside Services will be held Tuesday June 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Alta Vista Cemetery.  Rev. Scott Strickland officiating.
