Edison Everette Maness

Edison Everette Maness, age 93 of Cornelia, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018.

Born in Habersham County, Georgia on August 20, 1924, he was a son of the late Julius & Lillie James Maness. He was the owner of the Baldwin Cabinet Shop for many years, licensed as a master carpenter. Mr. Maness later retired with the Schnadig Corp with many years of service. He proudly served his county in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Maness received a purple heart, bronze star and a Philippines campaign medal. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. Mr. Maness enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, fishing and camping. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Floyce Brock Maness; son, Alton Maness; brother, Auburn Maness; sisters, Addie Hogsed and Iowa Spradley; son-in-law, Phillip Gaines.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Everett & Beth Maness of Dahlonega, Amiel & Kathy Maness of Lexington, South Carolina, Loren Maness of Cornelia, Rev. Jimmy & Sandra Maness of Clarkesville; daughters, Betty Ann Gaines of Mt. Airy and Janet Maness Apple of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Mark Gaines, Andrea Gaines, Rhonda Maness, Heather Galloway, Steven Yorkie, D.J. Rasnick, Jonathan Maness, Rebekah Cauthen, Patrick Cauthen, Amanda Green, Joshua Wilbanks, Marissa Strickland and Jessica Maness; 12 great grandchildren; nephew, Warren Hogsed; niece, Dorothy Higgins.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Mt. View Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Franklin, Rev. Jimmy Maness and Rev. Justin Green officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, American Legion Post #84, and the DAV Chapter #15.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
