Kre Wehunt

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 26, 2018

Kre Wehunt ran into the arms of Jesus and into the presence of her brother Klate on a beautiful Sunday morning, August 26, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. No one ever faced a trial with more grace and bravery than she.  She left this world in the same way she lived each day, always concerned about others’ well-being more than her own. To know Kre was to love her. She had a special gift for making others feel special. No one ever felt left out in her presence.  She had a sensitivity that included and nurtured each person who crossed her path.

She was a 2013 graduate of Lumpkin County High School where she was crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year. She was an active member of the theatre program, both on and offstage. She created a number of memorable roles onstage and always helped others with hair and make-up, as well as often running lights. During her teen years she also successfully participated in a number of beauty pageants obtaining the title of Miss NorthEast Georgia.

After graduation, Kre attended Brenau University for a year and then transferred to Lanier Technical College to study cosmetology – a long time passion and area of natural expertise.

In November of 2015 she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. She approached this news with a continued zeal to live life abundantly each day she drew breath. In hospitals in both Georgia and New York she spread her warm and shined a light in the darkness bringing hope and encouragement to those about her. She fought the good fight and never lost sight of her supreme purpose of spreading love to others.

Kre is the daughter of J.T. and Shannen Wehunt.  She is preceded in death by her beloved brother, Klate.  Grandparents are Danny and Georgia McDonald, Mitchell and Geneva Stevens, James (papa) Wehunt SR, Eddie and Kay Puckett, Jennie and Ralph Byrd. Uncle John Daniel and Chelsea McDonald, Uncle Jonathan Stevens, Jesus and Lisa Shark, Zach, Sophie and Jeremy Montgomory, and Megan Allison. Godson Lane Haynes and Goddaughter Bentlee Geoghegan.

Visitation is at Dahlonega Funeral Home located at 20 Gibson Drive, Dahlonega, Georgia 30533. Visitation is going to be held on Thursday August 30th from 5PM - 9PM. On Friday August 31st from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 9PM.  The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, at Free Chapel located at 3001 McEver RD, Gainesville, Georgia 30504, at 2PM in the main sanctuary. Following service we will proceed to her final resting place at Yellow Creek Baptist Church at 6007 Yellow Creek RD, Murrayville, GA 30564 with Yellow Creek catering to friends and family.  Kre had requested that everyone in attendance wear red and if you would like bring a letter written to Kre that will be placed in a basket with your birthday on the envelope that her parents can read throughout the year. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to make donations to CURE at https://curechildhoodcancer.org.

Kre had many gifts, talents and passions, but her greatest passion was to bring glory her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She lived that passion out until her last breath on this earth and continues to glorify Him in her eternal home.

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8
