John D. Long

 Mr. John D. Long, age 87, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, September 7, 2018.

Mr. Long was born in Hall County on January 28, 1931 to the late Floyd and Lillie Sullens Long. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Black Long; brother Jim Long; sisters Dessie Miller, Verdell Wofford, and Conell Reeves. Mr. Long loved to help anyone in need and he loved to hunt and fish. He was affectionately called “Papa” by his grandchildren. Mr. Long was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Stacy and Julie Long, Dahlonega; sisters and brothers-in-law Charlotte and Cub Bryan, Dahlonega, and Jessie and Arnold Couch, Murrayville; sister Lois Bryan, Cleveland; grandchildren Shawn and Morgan Long, Brandon and Morgan Long, and Joshua Long; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Long, Berklee Long, and Riley Sarah Ross; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, September 10, 2018 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Mr. Mark Long will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
