Obituary Date: Saturday, September 22, 2018

Jack Dalton Geyer

December 27, 1931 – September 22, 2018

Jack Dalton Geyer, 86, of Gainesville passed away at home on Saturday surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on December 27, 1931 in Sylacauga, Alabama to the late Albert Geyer and Marie Hudson Geyer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Cornelia Calloway Hebson, brother Albert Geyer, and sister Williene Mullis.  Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy R. Geyer, his daughter Jill Geyer Reason and son in law Dan Reason Jr. of Houston, Texas, his son John Geyer and daughter in law Lisa D. Geyer of Gainesville, and his six grandchildren, Dalton Daniel Reason, Bailey Hudson Geyer, Ashton Allie Reason, Baxter Hughes Geyer, Sydney Payton Reason, and Savannah Paige Reason.

Jack grew up in Columbus Georgia where he went to Columbus High School and played football.  After high school, he worked for the Central of Georgia Railroad as a fireman.  Jack left the railroad and enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After four years of service he returned to the states and worked odd jobs to pay for flight lessons.  His passion for flying led him to Riddle Airlines and was later hired by Eastern Airlines.  Captain Jack flew for Eastern for 29 years, where he was highly regarded as one of the most senior pilots and had the reputation for entertaining his passengers with poetry and jokes. On Christmas day of 1977 Captain Geyer broke the commercial speed record flying from Los Angeles to Atlanta in 2 hours and 52 minutes. The record still holds today.   Jack’s passion for flight, travel and love of his family and friends ran deep. He always claimed he was the “luckiest man on earth” and all whoknew him realized he lived life to the fullest. Jack took his last flight and “slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings” on September 22, 2018. None of us still on Earth will forget the love he gave so freely and deeply. The impact he had on all around him will endure.

Visitation for Jack will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday, September 24,2018 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice for their love and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations in his name to The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, 845 West Ridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501 or Northeast Georgia Hospice, 2150 Limestone Pkwy, Ste. 222, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
