Betty Jane (Thach) Brooks

Obituary Date: Wednesday, December 26, 2018

Betty Jane (Thach) Brooks, 90, of Cumming passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brooks; her parents, Frank and Christine Thach; and her brother, Fil Thach.

Betty graduated from Girls’ High School in Atlanta, and soon thereafter began working at New York Life Insurance in Atlanta.  She later became the Secretary to the President of Colonial Baking Company, where she met Ray.  Upon their marriage, she left the company to become a housewife, as they began their family.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose world revolved around her family and friends.

An avid fan of the Braves and the Falcons, Betty enjoyed cooking and watching TV.  Her favorites included cooking shows, detective shows, American Ninja Warrior, and Shark Tank.  Beginning in her early years as a young housewife, she always had something cooking, and ensured that anyone who came to visit got a good meal, or a taste of her latest creation.  Her passion was her family, especially the grandchildren, and she and Ray were the best “daycare” providers ever.  The highlight of the year was the annual family vacation, whether it was a cruise to the Caribbean or a trip to the beach, where the whole crew piled into one big condo for the week.  She enjoyed visits from friends and neighbors, who were a very important part of her life.  Within a short time, she went from being “just a patient”, to becoming family to the doctors and nurses who provided such great care to her in her later years.  She touched everyone she came in contact with, and was loved by all who knew her.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Dianna Brooks of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Greg Loughmiller of Suwanee; grandchildren, Alex Loughmiller, Brandi Brooks, Erica and Jordan Carroll, Brittany Brooks, Austin (Madison Barnhardt) Loughmiller, Christopher Brooks, and Ethan Loughmiller; great granddaughter, Sydney Peet; sisters, Dolly Hooper and Mary Thach, and sister-in-law JoAnne Thach, all of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, at 11:00 A.M. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel in Cumming, with Reverend Ruben Boling officiating. Private interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., and Saturday the hour prior to the service.
