Raymond Lloyd Carl, Sr., age 84 of Cleveland, Georgia, formerly of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Marie Carl; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Lloyd Jr. and Karen Carl, Boyertown, PA; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dean Young, Murrayville, GA; sisters, Loretta Landis, Gainesville, GA, and Anna Virginia Carl, Alexandria, VA. Three grandchildren, Justin Carl, Chester, VA, Jeffrey Carl, Baltimore MD, and Devon Young, Murrayville, GA. Raymond also had nine great-grandchildren.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Grace Carl of Spring City, Pennsylvania.
Ray was a devoted father and family man. Ray was a Navy Veteran serving on the USS Saufley in 1954-55, stationed in Key West and Puerto Rico. He was a hardworking man and an excellent provider, often working two jobs as a young man. He enjoyed family camping vacations to the mountains and to the beaches of Delaware.
He retired from Lawn & Golf Supply in Phoenixville, PA in 2006 after 25 years. Upon retiring, he and his wife Nancy moved to Cleveland, GA to be closer to his daughter and granddaughter.
Ray was a huge NASCAR fan, his favorite driver Dale Earnhardt. During his lifetime and year in Pennsylvania, Ray was a proud volunteer firefighter serving for many years as the Chief of the West End Fire Station. Ray was also a Master Craft Mason with the Masonic Lodge and served as a Tall Cedar Clown, entertaining children and the elderly with his balloon animals and tricks.
Ray was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he was active and attended regularly.
Services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Friendship Baptist Church in Cleveland, Georgia. Pastor Joey Pritchett will preside.
