Fred Collier Duren

Fred Collier Duren, age 95, from Cataula, GA (formerly of Gwinnett County, Georgia), passed away July 5, 2019.

Mr. Duren was born on December 1, 1923 in Gwinnett County and was the son of the late Milton Marion Duren and Lucy Popie Little Duren. Mr. Duren passed away on his and Margaret’s 72nd Wedding Anniversary. He was preceded in death by 15 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Spruill Duren; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Bobby Ammons of Cataula, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kathy Duren of Cleveland, Georgia; grandchildren, Nathan Ammons and his wife Lindsey of Buford, Georgia and Bethany Ammons of Lawrenceville, Georgia; sisters, Lillian Cannon of Winder, Georgia and Peggy Prince of Gainesville, Georgia; sister-in-law, Lamar Duren Maddox and several nieces and nephews.

He was a former member of Lebanon Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, Georgia and currently a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Sugar Hill, Georgia. He was ordained a Deacon by Lebanon Baptist Church in July 1963. He was the chorister of Lebanon Church for more than 20 years and was the chorister for Liberty Church for several years. He served his country in World War II in the Philippines and Japan. He reached the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. After 35 years of service with the Underground Department of Georgia Power Company, he retired.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, Georgia with interment with Military Honors at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Duluth, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 at the funeral home.
