Stephen J. Grizzard

Obituary Date: Monday, July 22, 2019

Stephen Jones Grizzard, 66, of Clarkesville, passed away on July 22, 2019, at Northside Hospital after battling leukemia.  He was born in Atlanta on November 14, 1952, to the late General James C. Grizzard and Ida (Renfroe) Grizzard.

Steve grew up in Avondale Estates and attended The Webb School in Tennessee before graduating from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia.  He attended Mercer University where he was a member of the Golf Team and member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.  This started a life-long love affair with the sport of golf and he went on to graduate from the University of Georgia.

Steve’s career in business lead to forming his own successful manufacturer’s representative company, Southern Marketing Enterprises.  After spending years in Atlanta with his wife, Barbara and daughter, Elizabeth, the family moved to Habersham County, Georgia.  A resident of the Orchard Golf & Country Club, Steve spent many happy hours pursuing his golfing hobby.  He also volunteered much of his time to the Habersham Community Theatre, serving on the Board of Directors as well as working on stage and behind the scenes.  Steve successfully balanced his professional life with his family life and always sought to serve his community as well.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Trask and James C. Grizzard, Jr.  He is survived by his much beloved wife, Barbara Brinson Grizzard; daughter, Elizabeth Grizzard Knowles; son-in-law, Ryan Knowles; grandson, Roxas Knowles; brother, George Grizzard; sister, Jeannine Grizzard; and sister-in-law, Cherry McDonald, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be a Remembrance and Celebration of Life on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. at Windermere Lodge, located at 4444 Front Nine Drive, Cumming, Georgia 30041.  To access parking for the Lodge, turn at the large stone entrance sign marked “Village Center”.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Habersham Community Theatre.
