LaRose Hill Bowen

Obituary Date: Sunday, August 11, 2019

A memorial service for Mrs. LaRose Hill Bowen, 82, of Gainesville will be Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, in Gainesville. Mrs. Bowen had been a resident at New Horizons Lanier Park, in Gainesville.

The Rev. Scott Vaughan, Mrs. Bowen’s son-in-law, will officiate the service.

Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leo Donald Bowen; parents, Charles Edwin and Mattie Louise Hill; and, brothers, Charles Hill, and Larry Hill.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by four children, Richard (Rick) Bowen (Patricia), of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kathy Koen (Steve), of Gainesville, Vicki Vaughan (Scott), of Lexington, SC, and David Bowen (Heather), of Saginaw, MI; sisters, Bonnie Powell (Gary), of Alexander City, AL, and Marilyn Brown (Dickie), of Opelika, AL; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bowen was born Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1936, in Cottageville, SC. She was a graduate of Richmond High School, in Augusta, GA., and from a two-year business school in West Point, GA.

Mrs. Bowen was a baptized follower of Jesus and grew up in the Methodist faith. At the time of her death, she was a member of Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, SC, where she was active in the senior adult ministry.

Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker who deeply loved every member of her family. She was a former Girl Scout leader, former manager of the baseball park concessions while living in Decatur, GA, and loved baking – especially known for her cakes. She loved babies and children and was a former children’s Sunday School teacher. For a time, she cared for children in her home.

The family appreciates the love and support shown Mrs. Bowen by the staff of New Horizons Lanier Park and appreciates the kind assistance of Little & Davenport Funeral Home’s staff in the management of arrangements.
