Mr. Marion Thomas “Tom” Collins, age 76 of Abby Lane, Toccoa passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 at his residence.
A son of the late Luther Mack Collins and Martha Emma Ramsey Collins, he was born August 17, 1943 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam serving with Troop C, 3rd Squadron, 4th Calvary. He was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. He also taught Sunday School at the Nursing Home. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4346 and the American Legion Post 104. He was a former member of Stephens County Rescue and Civil Defense and the Shiloh Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Kyle Richard Sapp, by three brothers, John Will Collins, Billy Collins and Marvin Collins and by five sisters, Roberta Poole, Alliene Haddock, Mary Lou Simpson, Mirinda Nicholson and Elois Edmonds.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Betty Cheek Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Stewart Sapp of Toccoa; granddaughter, Katie Sapp; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Joyce Collins of Toccoa; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Benny Brown of Toccoa; sister-in-law, Carolyn Collins of Athens; special niece, Linda Dobbs.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 5, 2020, 2 O’clock p.m. at Hill Street Baptist Church with The Reverend Paul Garrison and The Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Donnie Smith, David Smith, Mark Smith, Stewart Sapp, Ricky Cheek and David James.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Sapp, 2952 Rock Creek Road, Toccoa and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346 Honor Guard.
