Main Street Gainesville reports $4.5M in new, renovated projects downtown

GAINESVILLE - Thirteen downtown businesses, Brenau University and the City of Gainesville were honored by Main Street Gainesville Tuesday night.

They were singled out for more than $.5 million in new and renovated projects in downtown Gainesville.

Those projects accounted for 229 new or retained jobs; six new businesses; four expanded businesses; one property acquisition; and an expanded tax base, according to Main Street Gainesville.

The honorees were presented with Main Street's Golden Nail Award at its annual dinner, which celebration its 12th Anniversary and was held at the Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK).

Golden Nail Award winners for work in 2007 included:

*Jan Cooley-Purchase and renovation of the 311 Green Street Building.
*Brenau University- Renovation of space in the Featherbone Center for the Department of Nursing.
*Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK)-Renovation of their space in the Featherbone Center.
*Harrison Tire and Oil Company-Renovation of their building at 124 W. Academy Street.
*City of Gainesville-Renovation of City Hall Building.
*Hall Community Bank-Renovation of their space in the 311 Green Street Building.
*A.J.'s Fun, Food and Friends-Renovation of their building at 322 Spring Street.
*Wild Wings Café-Renovation of their space at 311 Jesse Jewell Parkway.
*Scott's On the Square- Renovation of their building at 110 Main Street.
*RaD Services, Inc.-Renovation of their space at 222 Main Street.
*Dental South, Inc.-Renovation of their space at 123 Washington Street.
*Carol's Closet-Renovation of their space at 114 Washington Street.
*The Crystal Plate-Renovation of their space at 112 Bradford Street.
