GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council this week looked ahead to the summer opening of the Frances Meadows Center by approving a budget adjustment to hire key personnel.
The $96,000 adjustment also funds center marketing.
Parks and Recreation Director Melvin Cooper said he wants a more firm date for the opening. Builders are still projecting this July.
"We don't want to go and hire all of our staff expecting to open in July and us not open until August," Cooper said. "These four positions are key no matter when we open up."
Cooper said he wants to hire a center division manager, operations manager, aquatics manager and custodian, all start-up positions.
