BUFORD - Aquamarina Lazy Days in Buford has been chosen as the 2008 National Marina Day Headquarters.

National Marina Day, which takes place Saturday, celebrates the role marinas play in waterfront communities all across America.

Each year the National Marina Day Committee chair chooses a marina to be the symbol of all that the Association of Marine Industries (AMI) is trying to achieve.

"Lazy Days is a first-class facility that showcases all the great things marinas have to offer and that marina operators do," said Michael Shanley, Chairman of the National Marina Day Committee. "I also hope by bringing the event to Lake Lanier that we'll be able to show how we are recovering from the drought issues of last year. We want to bring the boaters back."

Last year, Lake Lanier was severely affected by summer drought, which impacted local boaters, as well as local marine businesses.

In order to help their clients easily access the water, Lazy Days has purchased the custom-designed Marina Bull LoPro, a state-of-the-art lift system that has capacity to drop down lower than traditional lifts and transport boats safely to and from the receded water levels.

"We want to assure our clients that, with the new lift system, we are anticipating a wonderful summer on the lake, and an outstanding event on August 9," said Katie Baron Nullman, National Marina Day committee member. "We're planning a spectacular day with food, games and music that the whole family can take part in."

Proceeds from the event will benefit Flotilla 29 of Lake Lanier, the Coast Guard's volunteer auxiliary branch.
