Athens man arrested in Laurelwood rape

GAINESVILLE - An Athens man faces rape charges in a January 10th attack on a 19-year-old patient at Laurelwood mental health hospital.

The Gainesville Police Department issued an arrest warrant late Thursday afternoon for Kevin Norman, 41, of Athens. Lt. Brian Kelly said Norman and his alleged victim, a 19-year-old female, were both patients at the facility at the time of the incident.

Kelly said, "Norman was taken into custody yesterday (Thursday) evening and is currently in Athens-Clarke County awaiting transport to Hall County."

Another rape involving a 31-year-old female victim was reported to have occurred on January 9 at Laurelwood, but police said they have been unable to substantiate that attack.
