CHS Robotics team advances to state competition

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Chestatee High School Robotics team has advance to the upcoming state championship for the first time in team history.<br /> <br /> The CHS RACE Eaglemaniacs earned the right to compete at the state level on December 13, 2014, at the Gwinnett School of Math, Science, and Technology (GSMST) in Lawrenceville.<br /> <br /> "It took ten long hours at GSMST in Lawrenceville on Saturday for the CHS RACE Eaglemaniacs Robotics Team to win their first ever Robotics Qualifier, which guarantees them a spot at the state championship on February 14, 2015 at a location to be announced in the near future," said team sponsor Nick Scheman in a press statement.<br /> <br /> "For founding senior members Rushir Parikh and David Lawson, this has been a long four-year challenge, which included many robot rebuilds, constant coding refinement and funding procurement. Team captain David Lawson has kept the team focused, determined, and united in their quest for robotic domination by gathering team members whenever possible after school," said Sheman.<br /> <br /> This year's competition was titled "The Cascade Effect," and teams had to design robots that could move different size plastic balls into different sized containers. To earn points, robots had to be coded so that they could move autonomously for 30 seconds and then for two minutes while under the guidance of student drivers. To optimize a competitive advantage at these events, teams must form collaborative alliances in order to accumulate the most points. <br />
