NEWBORN, Ga. (AP) A Georgia State Patrol Trooper went beyond the call of duty after four children were left parentless on Halloween.
News outlets report Donald and Crystal Howard went to buy face paint and candy Saturday evening. They were killed when their SUV flew off the road and hit a tree.
At their home, trooper Nathan Bradley was greeted by the children wearing costumes.
Their closest relative, a grandmother, Stephanie Oliver, lives in Florida. With her permission, Bradley didn't tell the children, ages 6 through 13, the news. Instead, he treated them to food, movies and a sleepover at his patrol post.
They found out about their parents the next morning when Oliver arrived. They'll be living with her in Florida.
Bradley also started a GoFundMe page for the Howards' funeral expenses.
