Three people seriously injured in two-vehicle Rabun County wreck

Three people were seriously injured after they were involved in a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 441 in Rabun County.

According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck happened at about 2:20 p.m. at U.S. 441's intersection with Boggs Mountain Road.

John Franklin, 70, of Hayesville, NC, was driving a Nissan Versa east on Boggs Mountain Road and attempting to make a left turn onto U.S. 441. Franklin allegedly failed to yield during that turn attempt, traveling directly in front of a dump truck, which was driving north on U.S. 441. The two vehicles collided as a result.

Franklin and his passenger, Patricia Franklin, 70, also of Hayesville, NC, were both transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the Western Star dump truck, Jonathan Munger, 34, of Rabun County, was transported to Mountain Lakes Medical Center in Clayton with suspected serious injuries.

The collision between the two vehicles caused the roadway to be shut down for several hours while crews cleaned up debris.
