NTSB: Residents reported fog after fatal Habersham Co. plane crash

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) Federal investigators say residents near the crash of a small plane near a northeast Georgia airport heard the flight go down but couldn't find evidence of the wreck because of heavy fog.

The account is contained in a newly released preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board on the Nov. 4 crash of the Piper Cherokee flying from Fort Pierce, Florida.

The report says residents near Habersham County Airport were drawn outside when they heard a ``whirling'' noise and then a crash but couldn't locate anything because of the fog and mist.

The crash killed 3 people.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire identified them as pilot James Thomas Lycett of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Steven Matthew Wisor of Fort Pierce; and Edward Leslie Black of Port St. Lucie.

This story will be updated.
