MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) Police in the city of Marietta have launched a program meant to improve the safety of people looking to meet buyers and sellers of goods that have been posted online.
Marietta Police say the department is also launching the free ``Meet, Screen, Exchange'' program to make sure that items for sale online aren't stolen and being resold. Authorities say the department is offering police headquarters are a neutral place for online buyers and sellers to meet and execute their transactions.
The announcement comes after a Clark Atlanta University student looking to buy an iPhone 6 through Craigslist was fatally shot and robbed in Marietta.
A Marietta couple looking to buy a classic car in January was also slain in Troup County after driving for hours expecting to meet the seller.
