Hamrick to run for re-election

By B.J. Williams

GAINESVILLE - Long-time Gainesville City Council member Bob Hamrick announced Monday he plans to run again for office. His current term expires in December.

Hamrick made the informal announcement via Facebook.

"I am committed to a greater Gainesville and the continuation of its leadership role in the Northeast Georgia area. A Gainesville committed to provide a first-rate education for our children. A Gainesville where growth is balanced, businesses are provided the opportunity to expand and grow, and neighbors are protected. A Gainesville where taxes are fair and government works. A safe Gainesville, a successful Gainesville, a caring Gainesville. A Gainesville that works."

Hamrick, who represents Gainesville's Ward 2, was first elected to the city council in 1969, making him the longest-serving member of the council.

Hamrick currently serves as Mayor Pro-Tem.
