GSP details Banks County fatal wreck

By Rob Moore

HOMER - A single-vehicle wreck discovered just before 7:30 Sunday morning in Banks County claimed the life of a Martin man.

Sgt. Anthony Coleman of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville said 41-year-old Mark Joseph Akin died as a result of the single-vehicle wreck.

"Speed was a critical factor" in the wreck involving Akin's 2011 Infinity G37, Coleman said. The vehicle ran off the road, went out of control, and overturned numerous times, ejecting Akin.

The wreck happened on Georgia Highway 63, 2/10-mile north of Georgia 51 North.

"It is unknown exactly what time the accident happened," Coleman said.  "There was nothing at the scene to indicate alcohol was involved, but because it was a fatality we did blood toxicology."

Those results are pending.

Akin was unrestrained, Coleman said.
