Cheer coach grants interview to Atlanta TV station, claims innocence in molestation charge

By B.J. Williams

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville competition cheerleading coach accused of molesting a teen has defended himself on an Atlanta TV station.

Terrance Bohanna told CBS 46 he was stunned at the accusation.

"I've worked with kids for over 20 years and I've never had an allegation like this," said Bohanna.

Hall County investigators said earlier this week the victim was a student with Georgia Rebel Superstars. The CBS 46 report indicated otherwise, saying the alleged victim was a brother of one of the cheerleaders. The incident in question is said to have occurred at a hotel in Atlanta, where the cheer squad had gone for a competition in February. Bohanna told the TV station he was never in a hotel room with the alleged victim.

Neal Ainsworth, Bohanna's attorney, also told the TV station the accuser's sister remained part of the cheer squad until just this week, when the girl's parents took her out of classes at the Gainesville gym.

Bohanna was arrested April 10 by Hall County authorities. He was freed on a $10,000 bond. Investigators said they also are looking into similar incidents involving Bohanna in two other counties.
