BUFORD — Gwinnett County police said a man who was found dead on Flowery Branch Road in Buford Tuesday afternoon could have been dead for several days.
Cpl. Michele Pihera said someone driving down the road spotted what looked like an abandoned truck and called police. Investigating officers then found the body of 37-year-old Christopher Landress of Buford. She said the cause of death is still unknown.
"When the medical examiner got out there, they were able to determine that there was no immediate external signs of trauma," said Pihera. "However, they're going to need to complete an autopsy in order to get more definitive answers as to how this person died."
Pihera said it appeared Landress might have been at the location for a number of days. She said the truck and the body were actually located a short distance off Flowery Branch Road near a bridge that spans I-85.
"Based on the initial report, there's a dirt road that goes back to where the vehicle was found and the complainant was traveling along that roadway yesterday when he saw the vehicle and then saw the body," said Pihera.
She said the vehicle was taken to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters for processing.
Pihera said it will take awhile for the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
