Suwanee City Council holds off on vote for mixed-use project

By Tyler Nutt

SUWANEE — A vote on a controversial multi-million dollar development for Suwanee's Town Center area has been delayed for two weeks.

City Council members decided at their meeting Tuesday night to postpone a public hearing on rezoning that would allow for development of a $46.5 million mixed-used development at the corner of Buford Highway and Chicago Street. That development would include street-level retail space as well as 235 apartments in the upper levels of the five-story building.

The decision to delay the hearing came after city leaders met with citizens concerned about the impact the project might have on the Town Center area. In a Facebook post, a group identified as "Save Suwanee Town Center" said the meeting "was a constructive exchange where concerns were voiced and ideas shared."

The hearing is now set for September 8 at 6:30 p.m.
