Investigators with the Oakwood Police Department have released surveillance footage of a suspect believed to be involved in a credit card fraud incident at two local businesses.
Sgt. Danny Sridej said the victim was the one who tipped off police that his credit card, which had been stolen while he was a Chicopee Golf course, was being used without authorization.
"The victim contacted our office after filing a report with Gainesville Police Department," said Sridej. "American Express [had] notified the victim that his card was being used at the Game Stop for about $805."
The suspect, a white male in his 50s, purchased a Sony Play Station 4 and a Microsoft Xbox unit with the stolen credit card on Tuesday, January 5, according to Sridej. The same man committed a similar crime with the stolen card at a Walmart store in Buford later that same day, purchasing a 55-inch flat screen television from the store.
Sridej said surveillance footage shows the suspect leaving the Walmart parking lot in a dark-colored SUV. Another person was driving the vehicle.
He said the victim and the suspect have a similar appearance and build, so it made it easier for the suspect to use the credit card and ID, which also was in the victim's stolen wallet. Sridej also said the victim's wallet was stolen when he left it in his golf bag at the golf course, so he cautioned residents about keeping valuables on their person rather than in places were they can be easily pilfered.
Sridej said he's hoping area citizens can help identify the suspect from the video and photo footage. The Sgt. can be contacted at (770) 534 -2364.
