Corps extends river basin comment period a second time

By B.J. Williams
Citing the complexity of the documents, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has once again extended the public comment period for new guidelines for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin.

The comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and the Water Control Manual will be extended two weeks until January 30, 2016, the Corps said in a press release.

"Due to the complexity and size of the documents, we have received requests to extend the comment period an additional two weeks to allow the public ample time to provide their comments,” E. Patrick Robbins, USACE Public Affairs Officer said.

Lake Lanier is part of the river basin, so any changes in the operation guidelines would affect Lanier and its stakeholders.

The original comment deadline was December 1, 2015; the Corps then extended the comment period until January 15, 2016.

Comments can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, ATTN: PD-EI (ACF-DEIS) P.O. Box 2288, Mobile, Al. 36628. The documents and appendices are available for review at http://www.sam.usace.army.mil.
