Hall work-based students recognized

By AccessWDUN staff
Hall County Schools recently recognized 174 outstanding Work Based Learning (WBL) students for earning GeorgiaBEST Elite Certificates from the Georgia Department of Labor.

The program provides students training in core work ethic traits, including punctuality, attendance, teamwork, discipline, commitment and more. These students completed the top level of training which included not only instruction and performance in teamwork, responsibility and organization, oral and written business communication skills, productivity and academic performance, etc. but also the completion of community service/job shadowing/mentoring and a minimum of 150 hours in a Work-Based Learning internship.

Curt Sloyer, Service Director at Milton Martin Honda, was the keynote speaker.  Sloyer currently serves as a mentor for the Hall County WBL program and is also a WBL Alumni.  He advised the graduating seniors to “be on time, find a great mentor, and be a sponge; soak up as much experience as you can on the job.”  Sloyer advocates for the WBL program as well the GeorgiaBest soft skills certification.

“Teaching students to have employability skills is vital to our community and local businesses” Sloyer added, in reference to the GeorgiaBEST Program.
