The Hall County Board of Commissioners has paid off two million dollars in sewer debt after voting to sell property at the Spout Springs Water Reclamation Facility on Spout Springs Road.
Two tracts, totaling over 100 acres, were both sold to developer J.H. Homes for $2.22 million. The Board used the proceeds from that sale to pay down the debt from $14.3 million to $12.1 million.
"This is another example of the dedication this board has to fiscal responsibility," said Board Chairman Richard Mecum.
The County is currently in the surveying process in order to purchase easements in the South Hall area to expand sewer lines. Those purchases are being made with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars, and no additional debt is being incurred.
"We will be able to provide citizens with additional sewer service in this area as well as the Friendship Road corridor," District 1 Commissioner Kathy Cooper said. "As we know, sewer is crucial for growth and development, and we're proud to be investing in those opportunities."
The property that was sold was formerly used as a spray field but was no longer needed once SPLOST-funded upgrades at the SSWRF in 2011 permitted the County to discharge into Lollis Creek instead. Following the sale, approximately 200 acres of the Spout Springs Water Reclamation Facility remain.
