Towns County investigation leads to arrest in drug trafficking case

A teenager from Hayesville, North Carolina, faces a staggering number of charges after being arrested in Towns County earlier this month as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
 
Steven Douglas Anderson, 19, was charged with at least twenty-two violations of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act after multiple search warrants were executed inside his residence on January 11.
 
Towns County Sheriff Chris Clinton said in a press release Thursday that deputies searching the residence, the location of which was not disclosed, seized a large amount of various illegal drugs, "a quantity of firearms, cash and a Mercedes-Benz automobile."
 
Among the drugs seized were quantities of heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, mushrooms, Xanax, Oxycodone and Hydromorphone. Sheriff Clinton said the drugs had an estimated street value of $80,352.
 
Anderson's residence also contained a locked safe, which Sheriff Clinton said was opened with the assistance of the county fire department.
 
"During the course of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Anderson’s safe that had been originally alerted on by Towns County Sheriff’s K-9 Hunter," he explained. "Towns County Sheriff’s Deputies requested assistance from Towns County Fire Department in opening the safe utilizing equipment for vehicle extraction."
 
"We would like to thank the fire department for their help in 'cracking the safe.'"
 
Clinton's release described the charges levied against the suspect, and they are as follows: 

  • Trafficking Heroin
  • Possession of Heroin
  • Possession of Heroin with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Mushrooms
  • Possession of Mushrooms with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Ecstasy
  • Possession of Ecstasy with intent to distribute
  • Possession of THC oil
  • Possession of THC oil with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Xanax Possession of Xanax with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Oxycodone
  • Possession of Oxycodone with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Hydromorphone
  • Possession of Hydromorphone with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Alprazolam
  • Possession of Alprazolam with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Acetaminophen/Oxycodone
  • Possession of Acetaminophen/Oxycodone with intent to distribute
  • Possession of Marijuana less than 1 oz.
  • Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute
  • Possession of drug related objects

 Sheriff Clinton noted that the investigation is "active and ongoing."
