Glenda Berry said she and her husband Todd, of Gainesville, were already planning to go to Houston before they got their Super Bowl tickets.
Glenda said it started after she and Todd attended the NFC Championship game in Atlanta between the Falcons and Packers, when she posted a few photos on social media from the game.
"Todd had talked with a friend of his that lives in Texas, just about an hour out of Houston, and he has a barbecue place out there," said Glenda Berry in a phone interview on WDUN's Afternoon News Wrap.
"We decided we would go hang out with him, see the Super Bowl. He was going to have kind of a Super Bowl Party."
The thought of tickets hadn't even crossed the couple's mind. They were just planning to enjoy the atmosphere of the city.
That plan didn't last long.
"About an hour or so after that, a friend hit us up and said, 'Hey we've got some tickets available if you're interested,'" said Berry.
They were.
"The stars just aligned just right. I don't even know how that happened, but I'm excited about it."
Meanwhile, the stars were also in just the right configuration for a local teenager, Skylar Tipton, who attends Flowery Branch High School and won a pair of tickets through a contest.
Tipton, also speaking on WDUN's Afternoon News Wrap, said she won a social media contest with the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia. Tipton suffers from epilepsy.
"You had to enter in why you deserve to go to the Super Bowl, and I'm a minor so Dad had to enter it," said Tipton.
"He entered it in, and I got a bunch of people at school to re-tweet it, and he got a bunch of people at his work to re-tweet it."
Thanks to those re-tweets, Tipton advanced to the finals, which was a "like" contest on Facebook and Instagram.
Within 12 hours of posting on Facebook, Tipton's post topped 1,000 likes, and vaulted her to a victory and a trip to the Super Bowl. Keeping it under wraps, however, was easier said than done.
"I wanted to tell everyone, but Dad told me not to. I was really trying to hold it in," said Tipton.
"But then my friend Brooke, she was like, 'Did you win?' I just nodded."
The spawned a run through the school's lunch room, where Tipton was granted permission to tell her friends about her Super Bowl score.
Tipton, a self-described "huge" Falcons fan, said the smile didn't come off her face the rest of the day.
